Jah Prayzah on Friday night surprised all and sundry when he filled up HICC, a feat local artists have failed to match. In his past two launches — Kumbumura Mhute (2014) and Jerusarema last year — the lanky musician failed to draw full houses.

However, on Friday people put aside economic hardships they are facing to throng HICC, which has now become the Tsviriyo-hitmaker’s traditional rendezvous for album launches. People from all walks of life converged at the giant venue in support of the Uzumba-born musician who was releasing his seventh album.

Among the crowd were Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa. Dynamos chairman Kenni Mubaiwa, who has proved to be a Jah Prayzah fan, was also one of the sports personalities who graced the show.

Other sports personalities included former CAPS United player Ashley Rambanapasi and former Harare City defender David Kutyauripo, among a host of other premiership players. Former Big Brother Africa housemate Pokello Nare sat on the same table with radio and television personality Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, among other socialites.

Surface Willmar, the manufacturer of Pure Drop cooking oil — who were the principal sponsors of the event — were represented by a number of executives, who included chief executive officer Sylvester Mangani

“Jah Prayzah was the first to launch an album in the giant venue [HICC] in 2014, but we did not manage to fill it up. In 2015 we tried again, but if you ask me if we managed to fill it last year, I would say yes, he did. This year, it was not about #FILLUPtheHICC, but setting the record,” said Jive Zimbabwe director Benjamin Nyandoro, who was among organisers of the launch.
