Old Georgians (12) 25 False Bay (21) 38 AN unconverted last minute try by False Bay Rugby Club left wing Jaco Jooste to ensure the visiting Cape Town-based club completed a comfortable 38-25 win over Zimbabwean rugby champions Old Georgians in the second round of the Gold Cup competition in the capital yesterday.

The two teams started the match cautiously with what appeared to be a kicking duel between the two flyhalves, Tiaan Van Wyk and Lenience Tambwera, who traded two penalties apiece in the first 30 minutes of the game.
The match, however, soon opened up at the half hour with the Western Province rugby champions managing to cross the whitewash twice in a space of six minutes through fullback Botha Willem and prop Gert Petrus Luwes.
Van Wyk, who was impressive from the kicking tee, slotted home the conversions, while Tambwera added two further penalties as Old Georgians trailed 21-12 at the break.
Despite starting the second half steadily with a try by young fullback Shingi Katsvere six minutes after the restart, the home side lacked momentum going forward and they made too many basic errors.
False Bay took full advantage, running in three more tries through a second half double by Jooste and another by hooker Marthinus Klopper, while Ryan Sparke crossed the whitewash for a consolation try as the visitors completed a comfortable victory.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Sevens rugby team’s hopes of securing core status on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit suffered a major blow after they finished a disappointing sixth at the Africa Cup Sevens in Kenya yesterday.
