CHICKEN Inn coach Rahman Gumbo, who was seemingly under pressure in the past weeks, finally got it right when his side beat ZPC Kariba 2-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at White City Stadium yesterday.

The defending champions went into the match smarting from a 1-0 defeat to Bulawayo City last weekend but rose to the occasion, scoring in either half.

Ishmael Lawe justified his inclusion in the starting line up with a top drawer performance that saw him score the first goal for Chicken Inn in the 26th minute, cooly connecting a cross from Tafadzwa Kutinyu in the 26th minute.
Substitute Obadiah Tarumbwa added the second in the 80th minute after coming in for Pride Tafirenyika in the 63rd minute.

Clemence Matawu beat his marker in midfield and spotted Tarumbwa sending him a cross, which the latter connected with a first time effort to beat Tendai Hove in goals for ZPC Kariba.

ZPC Kariba coach Sunday Chidzambwa said his side did not deserve to win after a lackluster performance.

“Honestly we did not deserve to win. We played very badly in both halves and had one shot on target. It is just one of those days we did not play well. We have to go back and work on our mistakes and prepare for the last three matches,” he said.

Rahman Gumbo said they had rectified the mistakes they made in the previous games and went into the match with a winning attitude.

“Let’s face it, we rectified our mistakes and came in with a winning attitude. We knew that ZPC were defensive minded and we took advantage of that and our game plan worked,” he said.
