HAVE you ever thought about the fact that everything around you is communicating something to you — it may be your bank account, your child’s behaviour, your struggling marriage or fledgling business?

HAVE you ever thought about the fact that everything around you is communicating something to you — it may be your bank account, your child’s behaviour, your struggling marriage or fledgling business?

BY PHILLIP CHIDAVAENZI

Indeed, everything around us speaks, and we respond all the time through our spirits, even though our conscious mind may not be aware of it. We see this in Mark 11: 13-14, which reads: “And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he (Jesus) came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.”

In this scripture, we learn that Jesus “answered” the fig tree. This means that the tree had communicated something to him and he responded, although the disciples did not hear what the tree said.

Perhaps you have been serving the Lord for many years and it appears things are getting worse and worse? In fact, you have started asking yourself if it’s even worth it. We learn in the scriptures that the word of God is Truth. John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: Thy word is truth.”

The scripture doesn’t say God’s word is “true”. It says it’s “truth” — meaning that everything in your life that doesn’t confirm or agree with the word of God is a lie.

The sad reality is that many Christians speak negative about their lives. Instead of agreeing with what the word says about them, they choose to agree with lies and, therefore, what manifests in their lives are the lies of the devil. Jonah 2:9-11, “They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay [that] that I have vowed. Salvation [is] of the Lord. And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry [land].”

This is a very profound scripture. Jonah was in serious trouble as he was stuck in the belly of the fish. I don’t know which belly you’re trapped in today: is it the belly of accumulating debts? Is it the belly of a shattered marriage? Is it the belly of joblessness? Sickness? There is a way out. What was Jonah’s secret? He caught the revelation that if he observed his situation and cried over his fate, there would be no salvation for him. It was “a lying vanity.” That was why he chose to give God thanks. Thanking God in the midst of trouble is a sacrifice that produces results. Thanksgiving moved God and he communicated with the fish to vomit Jonah.

If you thank God in the midst of trouble it means you are fighting for the manifestation of the word of God in your life against all odds. You can only respond to lying vanities by the truth.

It is important to hold on to your confession. This is not a confession of sin, but a profession (affirming and asserting the Word of God in your life) of faith. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the profession of [our] faith without wavering; for he [is] faithful that promised.”

Holding fast to something is holding on tightly to it, like a dog with a bone, refusing to let go. So no matter what you see happening in your life, hold on to the Word!

In a nutshell, you must agree with God concerning your life. You must agree with his word. You must confess the word over your life and everything that concerns you. Speak the Word over your body, your job, your business, your family, your finances etc. 2 Corinthians 4:13, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore I have spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak…”

The scriptures are written concerning you, for the New Testament was written to the Church. Do you believe what is written (in the scriptures)? If yes, then speak them forth.

I always find it interesting that believers seem to think sometimes their words are powerful and sometimes they are powerless. Just imagine that salvation is the greatest miracle. But you never fasted 40 days for God to save you from damnation! You never did an all-night prayer or gave a sacrificial offering. All you did was a simple prayer of faith confessing the Lordship of Jesus and asking Him to come into your heart.

This principle, therefore, applies in all circumstances. You can use the word to control and shape your own life as you silence other “voices” that seek to shipwreck your life. These are the confessions of faith.
