The crucifixion was a ‘rescue’ operation
The crucifixion was a ‘rescue’ operation

Every person born into the world has his abode in the kingdom of darkness. But the moment a man is saved, he’s relocated from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God. Many Bible translators state that God “delivered” us from the devil’s kingdom, but I love how the New Living Translation puts it in Colossians 1:13, “For he (God) has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son…”

So, the crucifixion was a “rescue” operation. This means we were once in bondage, in prison, and Christ came to our rescue. The Kingdom of God, which has residents both in heaven and on the earth, is referred to as Zion. So when you’re born again, you’re now an inhabitant of a spiritual domain called Mount Zion. “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect…” (Hebrews 12:22-23).

In simple terms, even as we’re present physically in this world, we do not belong here. We’re merely ambassadors on assignment.

If you look into the Bible, you will realise that Jesus, our Lord, was the first to speak concerning this revelation. The most beautiful thing is that once we catch it, many of the things that trouble our souls will cease to be of concern to us because we will then focus on the right things, just as Paul said, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2). This idea was first expounded by Jesus in John 15:19, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”

As Jesus was praying for His disciples towards the close of his earthly ministry, He said very profound things that we’d be wise to take note of and apply in our walk of faith. He said as believers, we don’t belong to this earthly world. “I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” (John 17:14-16).

When we come to Christ, we’re given a new position of authority. You must get this. You’re not an ordinary person anymore. Your inauspicious background doesn’t matter. The moment you’re saved, God redefines you. “… Unto him (Jesus Christ) that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (Revelations 1:6).

This is mind-blowing! Jesus did not only wash us clean with his cleansing blood. He also placed crowns on our heads and adorned us with royal and priestly robs. He gave us authority to reign and to minister unto him and His people. This is the mentality of the new creation. We’re not the ones fighting devils, no, we’re the ones reigning with Christ and exercising dominion as we are seated together with Him in heavenly places.
