People suffering from different ailments, health service providers and experts converged at the health centre in Zengeza 4 where the underprivileged members of society also got free medical help.

Patients received medical attention ranging from consultation, blood pressure check-ups and sugar levels tests, selected operations, dental scaling as well as X-rays.

Citimed Hospital MD Timothy Goche said the day was mainly targeted at those members of society who were failing to get medical assistance.

“Today we decided to get back to the community as a token of appreciation to their support. Our patients are our first priority so we hold these open days at every year on quarterly basis,” he said

He said health care was a right for everyone; hence the hospital was making efforts to reach out to everyone.

“Our hospital is situated in a high-density suburb, which is populated by middle to low-class citizens. But as a hospital, we have marked affordable user fees for our patients as a way to accommodate everyone,” he said.

Citimed Hospital partnered with Bonvie Medical Aid Scheme to celebrate the Health and Wellness Day which saw a number of Chitungwiza residents flocking to the event taht was more of a family fun day.

Bonvie Medical Aid Scheme MD Thembelihle Mloyi said they were coming up with affordable medical aid packages which were favourable to Zimbabweans irrespective of their social class.

Statistics show that only 12% of the Zimbabwean population is covered with private medical aid.

“Most people view medical aid as a costly commitment, but we as Bonvie are finding ways and coming up with affordable ways for each and every individual to access health care despite their location,” she said.

Several people acknowledged the efforts by the hospital, saying they were pleased to access treatment for free.

“I’m happy to be part of this day and the most interesting part is we are receiving medical services for free,” said one elderly patient.
