Other small businesses including butcheries, an internet cafes have also been affected by the blackout.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority had two of its water pumps burnt due to the electricity supply disruptions.

Zesa spokesperson Fullard Gwasira said vandalism was taking its toll on service delivery.

“The scourge of vandalism is seriously affecting networks expansion as we constantly have to revisit areas that we would already have dealt with,” he said.

“The situation is further worsened by the fact that customers may go for too long without power.”

He said transformers and other components were being imported using scarce foreign currency.
