The world of wines is as glamorous as fashion trends, as fascinating as historical cities and as captivating as abstract art.

As much as that rhythm plays in my head, we all find ways of relating to the different rhythmical trends of life that play around us.

Even though I get caught up in the fashion trends that absorb the forties woman, I jealously hold close to my heart pieces of fashion trends long gone, possibly even belonging to the “dirty 30s.”

I ponder on the rich history of different countries and in particular Old Town, a Unesco world heritage site in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

I can go on and on. Wine lover, charisma, is in the eye that dares to observe.

And in that same vein, mingling with wine, from style to variety to origins, lies entirely with you.

La Distra Brut — a wine distribution company in Harare — has been that constant in fulfilling wine lovers’ needs.

Well-known for brands such as Graham Beck, Steenberg Vineyards and Kleine Zalze, this week it takes the wine light by bringing you Boschendal wines.

Founded in 1685, Boschendal Estate is among the oldest wine farms in South Africa.

It has several wine ranges under its belt and our feature this week is on its “1685 Series” which boasts an originality of imagination, even in the eye-catching bottle, that clearly reflects on the wine farms historical inception in 1685, over three hundred years.

The evening, well-prepared by La Distra Brut’s managing owner, Jane Watson, kicked off with an easy lip-licking 2017, vintage Rosé, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The interesting pale colour is enough to set your wine palate in motion.

It spells everything freshly summer and the experience reminded me of the innocent enjoyment of licking a strawberry ice-cream, observed, on an easy hot summer’s day. (Available for wholesale purchase from La Distra Brut)

Boschendal 1685 Series

Boschendal Sauvignon Blanc 2017 ($19,80) The delicate asparagus note jolted me to distinct wine memories of the famous New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

This white wine is a classical display of a fresh summer sipper filled with depth and a brilliant zesty finish.

Boschendal Chardonnay 2016 ($20,06)

Talking about trends, I’m riding on the Chardonnay love crest these days.

A generosity of smashed pear was a surprise to the nose.

This comfortable sipper defied the odds of the anti-Chardonnay movement that earned this white grape variety, years ago, a ribbon titled ABC club — Anything But Chardonnay Club.

A harmonious merge of flavours and creamy structure will add a desired glamour to your discovery of a Chardonnay trend.

Boschendal Merlot 2016 ($21,58) Wine lovers, hands up to those who haven’t been caught up in the wine trend of Merlot.

This red wine still stands as a juicy favourite. An enticing nose of faded mint and rich red fruit, generously following through on the palate makes this Merlot the perfect wine o’clock experience. Step into wine lushness and enjoy a Merlot-cious trend.

Boschendal Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 ($24,36)

Cabernet Sauvignon is the world’s most widely grown red grape variety.

For Boschendal, I have two words, magical red.

A whiff of tomato leaf flavour and consuming rich dark fruits released the deep black secrets of Cabernet Sauvignon.

2015 is drinking well and grabbing more bottles for future wine trends is a permissible idea.

Get glamorously seduced with this bold sipper.

Boschendal Shiraz Mouvedré 2015 ($21,36)

This red wine blend allowed Shiraz to take centre stage.

A dusty, spicy shake of pepper blew off leaving a jazz of ripe dark red fruit.

Step into the rhythm of this blend and start the trend with a delightful spicy sip.

Wine lovers, get your glamour on with this epitome of sass, flavour and indulgence. Free your palate from loyalty and grab this wine range, a swing unleashed by La Distra Brut.

Get trendy, join a trend, start a trend or be a trend, whatever you decide on wine lovers, let that trend be Boschendal’s 1685 Series.

My trend this week is with a Boschendal Cabernet Sauvignon.
