Black Rhinos captain Lot Chiwunga’s first-half strike proved enough for the army outfit to register their second set of maximum points and put an end to a two-match losing streak, while Bulawayo City suffered their third loss in five matches played so far this season.

The Amakhosi have garnered just four points from five outings and their coach Darlington Dodo believes poor finishing has been their biggest undoing.

“We were very bad in the first half and did not play the way we wanted to play as we were too elaborate and going forward we were not good. We played better in the second half in terms of attacking after we changed things at half-time, but I am still worried about our conversion rate as we keep creating chances that we do not convert,” Dodo said.

Indeed Bulawayo Chiefs started poorly and paid the price for their lethargic showing when Chiwunga poked home a superb pass from Masimba Mambare on 14 minutes.

Black Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa said his team’s strategy to sit back and rely on counter attacks had paid dividends for them.

“It was a difficult match, but we managed to come away with the three points. As a team that was coming from a defeat, our strategy was to put a lot of men behind the ball and then try and catch them on the break and it worked out for us,” Maruwa said.

Yesterday’s victory saw Chauya Chipembere moving to six points from five matches and Maruwa said it was a morale booster ahead of their next game at home to fellow uniformed forces outfit Chapungu.
