Rovers took advantage of their early dominance to score what turned out to be the only goal of the match in the 12th minute when veteran striker Evans Chikwaikwai connected home Issa Sadiki’s whipping cross.

Rovers, who have been failing to defend their lead in previous matches defended gallantly yesterday with veteran shot-stopper Tafadzwa Dube providing the much-needed inspiration for the home side.

Defender Themba Ndlovu also had a good game for the home side.

Bulawayo Chiefs had an opportunity to equalise late in the contest when striker Dylan Chiwandire headed just wide of goal from close range in the 79th minute.

In the last few minutes of the match, Rovers were more cautious as they defended deeply.

Rovers gaffer Joseph Takaringofa was ecstatic after the win, which he hopes will boost their chances of surviving the dreaded chop.

“It was a good win. Sometimes you don’t have to play too beautiful football, what only matters is collecting maximum points and that’s what we did. The win was a morale booster as we going to play tough matches in the next fixtures,” he said.

His counterpart Garthly Chipuka was disappointed after his side recorded a second successive loss.

“We are disappointed, it’s a second successive defeat and it’s a major concern for our team. But we are hoping to bounce back in our next game against FC Platinum, which will be tough,” he said.
