The books and other materials will be distributed at Vunganai’s album launch on May 5. Celebrated gospel singer Sebastin Magacha, whom he collaborated with on some songs on the album, will grace the event.

The initiative — dubbed A book to every child campaign — is a way the musician says would be part of his social responsibility programmes and gesture of ploughing back into the community.

Speaking to The Standard Style, Vunganai chronicled how his vision came into being.

“As a musician, I have noticed with much concern that many less-privileged schools in and round Gweru are faced with serious shortages of books, hence the need for us as musicians to tackle such problems head-on and help such disadvantaged members of society,” he said.

The musician said he was targeting to mobilise more than 1 000 books and other education materials. He added that the books would be distributed to selected schools on the day of the launch of his forthcoming album.

“I want my music to reach out to most people so that they get transformed by the life-changing messages contained in my music. On the other hand, I must also help the underprivileged,” he said.

The businessman-cum-musician said the books campaign would be an annual event that would see the corporate world joining hands and a high degree of transparency would be put in place at all stages of the implementation.

He said the implementing board would invite companies and stakeholders to attend and witness the handover ceremony.

Speaking about his forthcoming album whose title and names of tracks will be announced on the day of the launch, Vunganai said his fans should expect a blast. In the coming album, there are collaborations with Magacha.
