A local company, Jet Lab Medical Solutions, has partnered with a South African firm, Trinity Biotech, to provide a user-friendly HIV test kit for utilisation in local clinics and hospitals across the country.
The Uni-Gold HIV test kit is capable of detecting early infection and gives results within 10 minutes.
“What is fascinating about the kit is that it provides ease of use in that there is no longer need for separate application of components, there will be no more issues of accessories being out of stock as the kit contains all components in one, and the kit is easy to transport from one point to another as it is contained in one light box although it is much stronger than the standard kit,” a Jet Lab official said.
The kit has been a success in other African countries and several governments have adopted it as a verified testing kit. —Kudzai Muchenjekwa
