A brace from Allen Tavarwisa and a goal from Maxwell Mavuto ensured Chapungu account for the scalp of Mutare City Rovers.

Billy Vheremu scored the consolation for the Mutare outfit.

Buoyed by a NetOne sponsorship, Chapungu were high in confidence to record a second win on the trot after edging Bulawayo City last week.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges and their pressure paid dividends on the 15-minute mark through Tavarwisa. The veteran striker was quick to connect Phillip Marufu’s deflected shot to beat diving Mutare City goalie Bazel Mukunyadze.

The airmen continued to run rings around the troubled Mutare outfit as Mavuto doubled the score four minutes later. Mavuto weaved past two Mutare City defenders before unleashing a powerful long-range shot that left Mukungadze rooted to the spot.

Mutare City responded in the 24th minute through Vheremu when the 22-year-old gunslinger beat Chapungu’s offside trap to calmly slot the ball home past Talbert Shumba in goal for the airmen.

Mutare City were more attacking in the second half, but that was not enough.

Chapungu were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute when Ian Nyoni was brought down by Evans Chikwaikwai in the box.

Tavarwisa calmly converted from the spot kick to bag his fifth goal of the season.

Chapungu coach Rodwell Dhlakama heaped praises on his charges for maintaining a winning streak.

“As a team this is what we wanted, maintaining this good form,” he said.

His counterpart Ndega Matsika was down and out seeing his charges slump for the seventh time on the trot.
