Mashonaland East provincial engineer Jaravani Kangara told journalists touring the road rehabilitation projects in the province that the dualised stretch from Msasa to Melfort, just after Goromonzi turn-off, would be open to the public next Friday to ease congestion into Harare’s central business district.

“The project is being funded to the tune of $900 000 per kilometre,” he said.

“The first 11km to be commissioned next week started in 2012, but stalled due to lack of funding and has now been resuscitated after treasury released funds this year.”

Government this year released $232 million towards rehabilitation of the national road network that had deteriorated due to incessant rains in the 2016/17 farming season and years of neglect.

From the fund, Mashonaland East has received about $20 million and work is in progress for the rehabilitation of the Marondera-Hwedza highway linking Harare and Buhera, Beatrice- Mubaira and Wedza-Sadza roads, among others.
