Speaking at the commission of the base station on Friday, Potraz director-general Gift Machengete said the new facility would enhance mobile network coverage to Muswewenhede and surrounding farming areas and bring convenience, choice and boundless possibilities.

“Boundless possibilities in that when it comes to social development and economic growth, connectivity and the internet are the most important enablers of our time,” he said.

The site, which will be shared by Telecel, NetOne and Econet, is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe and marks the onset of a new level of infrastructure sharing.

It is a Multi-Operator Radio Access Network (Moran) site at which participating operators share not only the tower and energy plant, but the facility as a whole inclusive of the base station equipment and the antenna subsystem.

Potraz provided the site equipment of the base station with its tower where the three operators will equally share backhaul and long haul transmission.
