Defending champions FC Platinum made a perfect response to their midweek loss to Harare City as they bounced back with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

The Zvishavane miners struck through a first-half goal from defender Kelvin Moyo and a second-half brace from Cameroonian import Albert Eonde, while Chiefs got their consolation through Perfect Chikwende.

It was a successful revenge mission for FC Platinum, who lost to Amakhosi in the reverse fixture in April and, more importantly, the miners got some respite following the midweek hiccup.

As it stands, the miners remain at the summit of the log regardless of the result between Ngezi Platinum and Mutare City today.

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was happy with his team’s performance.

“We had many opportunities to score but we only scored fewer, but at the end of the day I can’t complain about the result. The main objective was to win today and we did that,” he said.

His counterpart Garthly Chipuka conceded defeated, but was livid at the way his team was treated by the host team.

“I must express my disgust at the way we were treated today. They poured urine on us and you cannot expect this from such a team that is expected to be exemplary in this league,” said Chipuka.

FC Platinum opened the scoresheet three minutes before half-time through centre-back Moyo, who calmly slotted the ball home from inside the box.

The Warriors international was quick to react after Winston Mhango’s first-time shot was blocked by the Chiefs defenders.

Eonde doubled the score 10 minutes later with a brilliant turn and shot from inside the box after he was picked unmarked by Rahman Kutsanzira.

Eonde proved to be Mapeza’s magic dice as he went on complete a brace on the hour mark.
