The platinum miners opened a healthy seven-point lead ahead of their closest rivals Ngezi Platinum, who take on Highlanders today at Barbourfields Stadium.

Chinyengetere’s hat-trick combined with Farai Madanhanga’s brace and Ali Sadiki’s goal helped the defending champions maintain their stranglehold at the top of the Premiership standings.

The hosts went to the break with a healthy five-goal cushion after Chinyengetere and Madanhanga both hit first half braces to add to Sadiki’s fifth minute opener before the former completed his hat-trick in added time.

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza (pictured) was elated by his side’s sterling performance.

“This is very good that we are grinding results. I have always said, we know the different challenges that were ahead of us, but I am glad we are doing well to overcome them,” he said.

“Scoring six goals is a bonus to us because the most important thing for us is to collect maximum points each time we play.

“I am happy for Rodwell, Farai and Ali and the rest of the team for making this day a success, but every player in our team should score. It remains crucial in building their confidence as we go into the coming assignments.”

Mutare City coach Ndega Matsika was disappointed by the loss.

“It’s disappointing, but we have to accept defeat and move on. We might have lost today, but we will not lose hope so easily. There are a number of games left to play before the season ends and our hope for survival is still alive.”
