But yesterday the Prophet Walter Magaya- owned outfit pulled off an unlikely win against title-chasing Ngezi Platinum Stars at Rufaro.

No one gave them a remote chance of grabbing even a single point against the platinum miners.

But a minute into injury time former CAPS United player Zvikomborero Biseki scored a stunning goal from 35 yards out to hand the hosts an unexpected victory.

Biseki — dominant all afternoon in defensive midfield — gathered a clearance from a corner kick and let fly a drive that meandered past a cluster of bodies into the bottom corner.

The result meant that Ngezi Platnum fall five points behind the log leaders with seven matches left, while Yadah climb two places to 12th, four points above the relegation zone.

“I am hugely disappointed. This has been us this season, we lose to small teams and another game we failed to collect maximum points when we were expected to get all the points. It’s disappointing especially where we are at this stage of the season as you want to be consistent. Today, we did not look like a team fighting for the championship at all,” Ngezi coach Tonderai Ndiraya said after the match.

The match promised fireworks in the first five minutes with chances on either goal. It was the hosts, keen to steer clear of the relegation zone, who threatened first.

Veteran striker Ralph Matema set up Portugal-bound Leeroy Mavunga after some delightful exchanges, but the young star shot weakly with goalkeeper Donovan Bernard to beat.

Barely a minute later, Godknows Murwira was rattling the hosts’ crossbar with five minutes on the clock.

After that there was little of the first half to write home about.

The second half was evenly balanced with both teams creating chances, but one could feel that the platinum miners wanted the maximum points more as they dominated possession. Yadah, although they ventured forward periodically, looked like they wanted to protect the point.

But it was Bernard who made the first real save of the second half denying Matema is low shot aimed for the bottom corner with nine minutes to go.

Bernard produced an outrageous save to block Matema’s overhead kick from inside the box pushing the ball out for a corner kick. But the resultant set piece came Biseki’s beauty.

“The guys played very well tactically and technically. They have done well considering we are coming from a series of losses and draws,” Thomas Ruzive, the Yadah coach, said in his post-match interview.

“These three points came at the right time because we were running out of time in our fight against relegation. It is a morale booster for us going forward.” Teams
