A NEW dance craze, twerking, has taken Mutare by storm — playing out at the city’s leading entertainment haven — Club Mandisa.

Twerking is the act of dancing to popular music that involves thrusting hips back to a low, squatting stance. This type of dance has come to Club Mandisa, where patrons have been turning up in large numbers to watch the dancers doing what they know best.
Local promoter and Club Mandisa owner Boniface Nyamanhindi is one of the top promoters of twerking competitions and has been trying to change people’s perception of this type of dance, which seems mischievous and sexually suggestive, to be accepted as a legitimate style of dance.
Popular local and international dancers headline Club Mandisa every week from Thursday to Sunday, where they have become popular with revellers.
Today, the dancers clash at the popular joint as the festive mood slowly grips the city. Dancing groups Five Stars, Hot and Bling, Nice and Exotic and Destruction Angelz will vie to outshine each other on the dance floor this evening.
The dance competition will be a weekly act at the popular entertainment haven. Nyamanhindi said the club would be bringing in bigger and better twerk dance groups in the coming month to solidify its position as the night spot of choice for the city’s revellers.

“We plan on bringing top entertainment to the city, which I think will allow us to continue growing as a brand. We have lined up various twerking and pole dancing shows this festive season,” said Nyamanhindi.
He added that Club Mandisa had managed to remain popular for the past years by providing patrons with top-notch entertainment.
“We pride ourselves in giving our customers what they want and I invite people to come to our shows because we promise fireworks. These quality shows are a further illustration of how we have managed to keep providing pleasure to the people that come to the club,” he said.
Club Mandisa has been one of the leading entertainment spots in the country and that is reflected in an expanded menu of local and international musicians. Various artistes are set to perform at the popular joint during this festive season.
