Popular choral group Vadzidzi Vekutanga has courted popular sungura musician Mark Ngwazi on their latest five-track album titled Nharaunda Yangu.

Also known as the Kings of Trumpets, the 12-member group had a live album launch at a local radio station yesterday.

Ngwazi, who fronts the Njanja Express outfit, is featured on the song Kenani.

Vadzidzi Vekutanga leader Richard Mapfumo said the coming-in of Ngwazi was because of his rich lyrics and voice.

“I listen to his music a lot and he is a wordsmith. I had to rope him in because of that. We wanted one of the songs to be endowed with rich lyrics,” he said.

Other songs on the album include the title track Nharaunda, Pamukaha, Muti and Mwari Wakanaka.

Vadzidzi Vekutanga are well-known for their energetic dances and prowess in playing the trumpet.

The release of the album shows the group’s strength in the gospel music industry despite their genre.

“We are happy that our eighth album is out. According to the title, the Lord has enlarged our territory and as a group we are going places preaching the gospel of Christ through music,” Mapfumo said.

“It is not an easy journey, but given our genre we have secured a number of followers in and outside the country. We will keep on releasing albums, playing the trumpet and shakers.”

Vadzidzi Vekutanga was formed in 2006 and consisted of members from the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. However, the group later embraced other talented singers from different denominations.

Their dance routines are called Boterekwa with the track Voshambira being one of the many that put them in the limelight.

Their previous albums include Kanganwiro (2009), Ngarava Yesvitsa (2010), Makatinzwira Ngoni (2013), Voshambira (2014) Ngoro Yemoto (2016), Nharo Nedenga (2017) and Ityai Mwari (2018).
