They say like wine, they get better with age, so does Patience Musa. The TV and radio personality turned 40 last Thursday though it’s hard to believe because of her youthful look that has had many young men crushing on her.

However, she is not of the notion that life begins at 40 in the Zimbabwean environment.

“In an economy like ours, being 40 is easily just a number. Being 40 in Zimbabwe is unlike being 40 in South Africa or Europe; it’s a little frustrating because I am from that generation that watched everything crumble. We are tortured souls,” she said.

The mother of one and also a singer says she has had an amazing journey in the arts, as a musician and also as a radio and TV personality.

“I have had quite a journey. There are no specific moments that stand out as in biggest highlights of my career because I have had plenty moments. I think it’s how all special small moments every day have an effect on how I do what I do, be it on stage singing or presenting on radio,” she said.

“I am always reinventing myself and challenging myself. However, I am not sure what form the new reinvention will take this time around.”

She is known for presenting XhaleBlock on ZiFM Stereo, since the station opened in 2012.

“I have been on radio since ZiFM Stereo opened. I have learnt so much and met very talented and passionate folks. They have rubbed off on me and the hope is that they too took away something from me,” she said.

She made her singing debut in 1999 as a part of a group that comprised of Willom Tight and Mateo Kaunda, which released tracks like Asambe Africa and Pamuhacha.

As part of Mateo and Friends, Musa participated in the Artistes Against Aids campaign as well as the Artistes Against Poverty, which were organised by Rooftop Promotions. In 1999, as part of Mateo and Friends they performed at the debut Harare International Festival of the Arts.

She also became a backing vocalist for Taso, gospel group Gospel Trumpet and Fungai Malianga.

After Mateo and Friends disbanded, Musa released her debut project With Love in 2002, which carried the hit single Zvirinani. With Love was followed by a self-titled album that also had a hit song, Crossroads, which she co-wrote with poet Chirikure Chirikure.

In 2010, she released the album Patie before joining ZBC and in 2012 she joined ZiFM Stereo, where she presents XhaleBlock.
