Without exposure, no one could ever imagine that Masvingo had so much talent in the arts industry. However,Thursday Night Live has given local artistes the chance to showcase their talent to the world as they do live performances at Masvingo’s Charles Austin Theatre every Thursday.

Through the performance at the Thursday Night Live, Thabo Sibanda has managed to attract sponsors and promoters who are willing to market his music.

Sibanda caught the eye of Lucky Kuneni, who was convinced the young artist could persue his dreams and this would add a lot of value to his music and has become his advisor. The other sponsor he referred to as Mukoma Mike is willing to market his music and spread it across the country.

“I have received sponsorship from people who appreciate my music and trust me and this is a positive move for me as far as my music career is concerned,” Sibanda said.

“Finance is the major challenge we face as musicians, so for me getting more than one sponsor is a breakthrough as it is what every artiste looks forward to.

“So, I am grateful that I have been recognised and I want to do more in the music industry and uplift Masvingo province when it comes to music.”

Sibanda said the live performances being done in the province were giving him and other upcoming artistes an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“Thursday Night Live sessions have given me a platform because local people now know about me and my music. My music is now being appreciated and my fan base is growing,” he said.

The musician feels it is now easy to introduce himself to the world.

“People are accepting my music with some relating it to Jah. When you start as a musician, you will feel like you do not belong, as people will not take you seriously and sometimes you are ‘sabotaged’ by others,” he said.

“I am working on my first album which will be released by the end of this year,” he said.

Sibanda marked his entry into the music industry in 2012 with a hip-hop single titled Takora before he shifted to dancehall a year later releasing tracks such as Ndatadza Kurara, Annually and Handimbomira.

In 2015 he did a love ballad titled Huya Timbotaurirana and another track Ndapotsa Ndasungwa. Two years later, he ventured into traditional music, releasing a single titled Musango and then came Nhamo Muroyi, Ngoma Yarira, Mudzimu Dzoka and a gospel track Nekusingaperi.
