LOCAL stand-up comedian and actor Ckhanyiso dat guy, real name Sikhanyiso Mlambo, says the National Art Merit Awards (Nama) and Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) snubs will not deter him from working hard towards his goal of becoming Zimbabwe’s best comic.

The comedian — who travelled across Zimbabwe, performing at all major shows last year and also featuring in the sitcom Special Class — was certain that he would make it for Nama and BAA, but alas his name didn’t even feature among any of the two arts awards nominees.

Nama nominated Learnmore Manyenyeka, popularly known as Long John, Sharon Chideu (Magi) and Dumisani Ndlovu (MaForty) for the Best Comedian award category, which was eventually won by Long John.

In this year’s edition of BAA, which will be held on June 20, Maforty, South Africa-based Q The Boss and Chik Alijoy will battle for honours in the Best Comedian award.

“I submitted my work for both awards, but unfortunately I couldn’t make it,” Ckhanyiso Dat Guy said.

“Awards are ornaments that make artistes work harder than before and also getting that recognition for the efforts you put is every artiste’s desire.

Ckhanyiso Dat Guy believes he should have made it in both awards considering he worked “extra hard” last year.

“I will make this a learning point and an inspiration for me to work harder so that I do better than what I am today,” he said.

Ckhanyiso Dat Guy is in Harare shooting Season 2 of Special Class. The sitcom is expected to debut soon on ZTV.
