GOSPEL musicians have welcomed the entrance of ZimGospel Masters magazine on the market and expressed joy that the genre is gaining traction in the media space in Zimbabwe during the launch of the new publication in Chisipite on Friday night.

Information deputy minister Energy Mutodi was the guest of honour at the glitzy event that was also graced by prominent gospel music personalities pastors Charles and Olivia Charamba, Fungisayi Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Tatenda Mahachi, Daisy Mukariri, Sandra Chirenje and the Jori sisters — Faith and Loice — among others.

Mutodi welcomed the new media house and said government supports the efforts of the publishers to spread the good news that unites people in a highly toxic media space.

In his speech Baba, Charamba said there was now a remarkable improvement in the coverage of gospel music by the media in the country.

The guests were touched by the show of support from gospel music personalities in the broadcast media Marion Shaba and Yvonne Tivatye, who graced the occasion and were joint masters of the ceremony.

The magazine is the brainchild of Standard Style gospel columnist Albert Masaka, who is now the editor of the new publication, who teamed up with top gospel music manager Munei Nyoni to form Greater Light Publishers.

Nyoni told Standard Style that he has a passion to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and the publication was transdenominational.

“I thank God that He has answered my professional mission statement through the launch of this gospel publication that is aimed at informing and educating the public about gospel events,” Nyoni said.

“You may have noticed that besides music, there are also sports, agriculture and business sections, all with a Christian bias.” Waddilove High School teacher and musician Patrick Nyahwo, who came in the company of his headmaster Charles Gwenda, commended the publishers for the top-drawer launch.

“Thank you for supporting musicians and for providing a happy Christian atmosphere that prevailed at the launch,” said Nyahwo.
