Zimbabwe will on June 14 join the rest of the world in celebrating World Blood Donor Day with the main event set for Chimanimani, which is still recovering from the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai.

The theme of the this year’s celebrations is Safe Blood for All. The National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) urged Zimbabweans to support its initiative to provide support to school blood collection sites in the areas hit by the cyclone.

“To honour its blood donors, the Zimbabwe national commemoration will be held on 6 July at Biriri High School in Chimanimani,” NBSZ said.

“NBSZ will hand over support to school blood collection sites affected by Cyclone Idai. NBSZ is appealing to the public to join this initiative, which is being carried out through a three-phase approach. Donations can be sent via Ecocash to NBSZ Biller Code 69842.”

Meanwhile, this year’s global event will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda, where NBSZ public affairs manager Esther Massundah will make a presentation on June 13.
