No two people can ever be the same, even in a family set-up. Siblings will have the same parents with the same upbringing and yet have totally different characteristics. In understanding of people, one has to have a full comprehension of the differences in persona and perceptions of people even in one circle. A group of people may sit in one room, listening to the same person and yet walk out of that room with different understandings of what was being said. If 10 people were to start businesses of the same nature, they will not all perform in the same manner because each business will have that unique ingredient of the business owner. Some people struggle today, be it personally, in relationships or even in business, because they have not as yet reached a point of understanding the unique patterns of their masterpiece.

What is a masterpiece?

We have grown up hearing about masterpieces from the first world countries when they refer to certain works of art that they would have deemed highly valuable. Looking through various platforms and dictionaries for the definition of a masterpiece, one comes to the understanding that all sources agree that masterpieces;

*Convey a special type of originality that captures the imagination.

*Stand the test of time

*Change the way that artists think about their work.

Looking at these simple three points, one came to understand fully why people mourn when someone dies, usual words of condolence always border on the sadness over the loss of a loved one. That loss is felt deeply because as much as there may be people around you that remain with you on earth, the unique company of that person who has passed on can never be replaced. Each individual has their artistic nature, which attributes to a person’s sense of beauty. The people you find yourself drawn to, maybe for their intellectual capabilities or physical beauty, is simply because you would have observed the design of their masterpiece and valued it enough to want to know them better. There is a certain value that accompanies works of art that have been deemed as masterpieces; this is justified by the understanding that the style of those works of art are peculiar to the artist and as much as someone can imitate those works, the value attached to the imitation can never equal that of the original.

As a masterpiece, understand that…

No one is you, and that is your super power. Each individual has what is termed DNA and fingerprints. Forensic science has always been amazing to me because when you take fingerprints all you see are lines that look the same as the next person’s. However, that is not the case, those lines are peculiar to you and no one can steal your fingerprints, let alone DNA. One can prove they are related to certain people using DNA. With this knowledge, people need to understand that they have so much value within themselves that can never be erased or replaced. Even when getting into business ventures, there is absolutely no need for people to even panic that there are several people that are running similar business ventures. Simply because the way each individual goes about their business is peculiar to them. I can try and copy my neighbour, but the final outcome will have my DNA and sense of style attached to it, it will never be the same as the person being imitated. The knowledge that there is none that can walk, talk, function in the same way you do is enough to have you stand tall.

Embrace other people, you are all valuable: There is absolutely no need to fear your neighbour or to hate one another. The success of the person next to you should be an inspiration and motivation factor to you, not something to give you sleepless nights as you seek ways to become better than them.

Don’t dull your sparkle, trying to imitate somebody else: The moment you try to outrun someone by stepping into their shoes, means you have left your own shoes unattended and neglected. It is okay to admire the likes of Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey etc, but that is who they are. They didn’t become famous for trying to be other people. How will the world know who you are, to be able to identify your voice even when blind-folded when you are too busy trying to sound like Jobs? How will the world know to identify your works when you are busy peddling cheap imitations of somebody else?

You are not in competition with anybody, be the best you for you are irreplaceable: Most people lose their way to success by paying too much attention, and putting too much effort trying to be better than their neighbour. The sad reality is that half the time, the people we are in competition with are not even aware that they are supposed to be competing with you to begin with. So in essence you are racing against your own shadow while thinking someone is paying attention to your efforts and no one is bothered. Just embrace who you are with the understanding that you have something to offer the world. Knowing that no one can ever take your place should give you enough peace to work at your own pace achieving goals specific to your own objectives.

Leave your legacy in the world: The world needs to know that you walked on the face of the earth and your footprints can be seen. You cannot leave a mark in the world when you are consumed by walking in someone else’s shoes and fulfilling some else’s dreams. Set your own goals, chase your own vision, and sing your own unique song to the world. Let the world hear your voice. Let your works be seen and be that distinguishing mark that will make people seek you out without ever knowing you. Legends are built by people willing to step out of their comfort zones and chase after that which they are passionate about. You are a masterpiece, with unique gifts and skills to offer this world, step out of someone else’s shadow today and tap into your unique abilities. Shine, the world needs your radiance. Stay inspired!!
