THE last six years have witnessed the emergence of the Moyo twins, Kelvin and Elvis, into a formidable force in local football as they established an impressive defensive barrier at Zvishavane-based side FC Platinum.

Having inspired FC Platinum to successive Premiership titles in 2017 and last season, the talented brothers are eager to make a similarly strong impact in South African football after recently completing a breakthrough move to Chippa United.

The twin brothers signed two-year contracts with the club after a six-year stint with two-time Zimbabwean PSL champions FC Platinum, where they had established themselves as the club’s mainstay, having played a pivotal role in the team’s success story.

Simply put, the two depart from the Zvishavane camp as heroes, while also becoming the second set of Zimbabwean twins to break into South African topflight football after the Mugeyi twins, William and Wilfred.

The pair seemed stuck, especially for Kelvin who made several unsuccessful attempts to join the South African contingent at clubs such as SuperSport and Golden Arrows.

And after their breakthrough into the South African Premiership, which also has many Zimbabwean players, The Sports Hub caught up with the twins who were in a celebratory mood.

Kelvin has already his set sights on using the South African league as a stepping stone to Europe.

“I just do not have the right words to describe how I am feeling now. I am happy, so is my family. I want to keep working hard and play as many games as possible, be injury-free because my dream, in fact, our dream is to break into Europe.

“This is a step forward and it means more work for us to keep advancing in our careers. Indeed with prayer you can never go wrong anyhow and this is God’s time for us.

“While we are celebrating, we are mindful of the fact that there is a lot of work ahead of us and for us to establish ourselves in that team, we have to fight and prove that we are worthy of this opportunity,” said a jubilant Kelvin.

What makes the twins special is the fact that they have been playing side by side in the natural left sided defence role since making their premier league debuts in 2013 and Elvis reckons their strength lies in their understanding of each other’s game.

“It is a good opportunity for us you know, because we have been playing together since we started on this career,” Elvis said.

“People know us playing together and I believe that it made us strong and to some extent special. And when playing beside your brother, you know how important it is to aid each other, our relationship gives us strength to cover for each other and soldier on.

“I hope and pray that we will get an opportunity to play side by side at Chippa because together we are the best and we can do anything. My prayer is that if we are to break into Europe, we go together and keep doing well,” he said.

The twins paid tribute to FC Platinum, where they established themselves as heroes having helped the platinum miners win two titles, something which gave them an opportunity of playing in Africa’s premier club competition.

“It is something special to me and I am more than grateful to God. you know being at a team like FC Platinum for six years, is not a joke and, of course, we had ups and downs as players, but we are grateful that we were part of the FC Platinum golden generation.

“I thank everyone at that club for the history we made and the experience we got and the lessons we learnt, despite the different challenges we did well. Coach Norman Mapeza and the technical team played an important part in our rise and he deserves a lot,” Elvis said.

Born on April 3, 1993, the duo started their football journey at Mzilikazi High School before progressing to the Amazulu Juniors and later the famed Highlanders juniors where they rose through the ranks to the Under-19s.

A move to cross-town rivals Bantu Rovers followed in 2009 before FC Platinum came calling four years later before they had turned 20.
