The owners of Pandari Hotel, now known as Ruwinga Lodges & Conferences, say they were not evicted from the premises as a recent High Court case only involved a separate property.

The High Court ordered the hotel and its owner Sunday Chifamba to vacate Stand 761 in the plush Glen Lorne suburb, which is owned by Eelco Alexis Walraven, started in 2016.

Walraven argued that he had not authorised the hotel to occupy the property.

“Our connection with 8 Woodbridge Close came when our director Sunday Chifamba, moved by the plight of workers, wanted to purchase the property and use it as staff quarters,” the hotel said.

“Along the deal structuring process we realised that the property was a subject of a dispute between its present occupant and Mr Eelco Alexis Walvaren.” However, the deal fell through and the case spilled into the courts.

The case was concluded on June 27 when Justice Owen Tagu ruled in favour of Walraven.

The hotel has 71 accommodation rooms and hosts nine conference rooms with the capacity to accommodate 1 000 people. It was upgraded from a lodge to a hotel recently after a multi-million dollar expansion programme.

In light of the new details, The Standard unreservedly apoligises to Chifamba and Ruwinga Lodges and Conferences for the confusion created by the publication of an article titled: Top Harare hotel evicted in our previous edition.
