SIX poachers have been killed this year after they were caught hunting for rhinos at conservancies and national parks, a conservation group has revealed. Three poachers were killed at the Bubye Valley Conservancy last Monday, but the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management authority said it could not release their names for now because investigation were still underway.

Bhejane Trust founder Trevor Lane said the poachers were shot dead by rangers.

“The contact led to the recovery of a 30.06 rifle and various items,” he said. “This brings the total this year of six poachers killed, one paralysed, one arrested, four rifles recovered and one car written off in a high speed chase”

Bubye Valley, situated in southwestern Matabeleland, has the largest concentration of rhino in Zimbabwe.
