CHAPUNGU put a huge dent on Black Rhinos’ hopes of challenging for the league title after upstaging their rivals in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

Black Rhinos, who had created the better scoring opportunities in the first half, opened the scoring a minute before half-time through a curling effort by Maxwell Mavuto.

However, Chapungu responded almost immediately through a curling effort by Farai Banda at the stroke of half-time as the two sides went to the break deadlocked at one goal apiece.

Brighton Mugoni secured all three points for the visiting side with an assured finish from a rebound in the 76th minute to hand Rhinos their second successive loss after their midweek defeat against Highlanders.

Black Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa blamed the loss on his team’s failure to utilise the several opportunities they created in the match.

“It was a tough match for us and we failed to make use most of our chances in the game. “It’s really hard to lose a match at home. “However, the season is still on and we are hoping to bounce back and get three points in our next match,” said Maruwa.More information on this season’s PSG new updates can be accessed here

Chapungu gaffer Rodwell Dhlakama said his charges deserved to collect all the three points from the contest.

“We played well, the writing was on the wall that we were going to win because in terms of gameplay we exchanged passes well and we were better than them. We played with a lot of confidence, we were fast. We are happy to have all three points,” he said.
