Local initiatives — Inspire Tutors and Ignite Youth — have joined hands in a bid to support and encourage youths to create solutions to problems that they face.

The project — dubbed Raise and Give (RAG) — helps youths tackle problems such as lack of education and access to proper mentorship through availing resources, funding and a platform for developmental dialogue among like-minded youths.

Both organisations work as platforms for youth-driven growth as well as catering for the educational welfare of the marginalised.

Speaking to Standard Style, one of the organisers of the initiative, Tafadzwa Ngosi, said the initiative was strongly themed on bringing the concept of ubuntu/hunhu to life.

“The joint efforts we are setting up aim to equip students from universities and colleges across Zimbabwe with the fundamental skills, perspectives and experiences required to passionately develop their careers such that they become leaders within an African context always conscious of the needs of their people. We want to bring ubuntu/hunhu to life,” said Ngosi

The initiative was initiated through a

RAG training and planning workshop held by the RAG executive committee early this month. This is where the vision for the cause was cemented.

“As a cause, we subsequently raised funds for both Inspire Tutors and Ignite Youth. The teams work together so that they can stand up and say ‘We raised money to give hope to the underprivileged communities’,” Ngosi said.

“So much goes into RAG budgeting, project management, strategy, networking, the diverse-driven youths in the partnering organisations also implementing projects that contribute to covering expenses for both Inspire Tutors and Ignite Youth as organisations.”

Anybody between the ages of 17 and 30 years can be a member of RAG with invitations being extended to youths in fields such as counselling, social work, education, library, information technology, media, finance, events and marketing, as well as administration, among many others.

The organisations have already set up a myriad of events on their calendar set to strategically help them reach the public.

“We have a lot of events on our calendar like the RAG Harare community leaders training, RAG’s First Street advertising event, RAG monitoring and evaluation and planning meeting for 2020. We are very hopeful these events will help us to reach out to people,” Ngosi said.

“We are looking for partnerships and sponsorship in the form of transport, stationery, advertising space in the media, branding of marketing material, working space for both organisations and are inviting seasoned experts and youths to sign up!”
