One of the founding members of the late Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo’s Utakataka Express, Ronnie Mudhindo, has roped in top South African pop singer Freddy “Amadamara” Gwala for a new project that is likely to be released before the end of this year.

Mudhindo, who fronts an outfit — Orchestra Vazvamburi — told Standard Style that working with a top musician of Gwala’s calibre was a dream come true.

“Gwala is one of the best musicians in South Africa who has been in the industry for decades and his music is still relevant to all generations,” Mudhindo, who is now based in South Africa, said.

“He is a very talented musician who can suit any genre as seen in the collabo he did with the late Paul Matavire, which was world-class.”

Mudhindo said he was doing a collaboration of a yet-to-be-named single.

The gifted bass guitarist, who left Utakataka Express to pursue a solo career in 2004, said life in South Africa had taught him the importance of networking and unity among musicians.

“In South Africa l have learnt that music shows are organised and all big artistes are invited to perform together without any fear of competition or jealousy, which rarely happens in Zimbabwe,” Mudhindo said.

He said backbiting and divisions were rife in the Zimbabwean music industry.

He added that there was need to have an Arts ministry solely to cater for artistes.

“Our government should consider having an Arts ministry separated from sports where artistes can air their grievances, especially on issues such as piracy which have destroyed the arts industry,” Mudhindo said.

He sad the economic situation in Zimbabwe was also contributing to the demise of the arts sector.

Born in 1976 in Kwekwe, Mudhindo grew up listening to the music of Leonard Dembo, Jonah Moyo and Marshall Munhumumwe, who inspired him to be a guitarist. He has six albums to his name.
