Searching for educational and adventurous activities in Harare can be quite an arduous task for both foreign and local tourists.

With the capital having lost its lustre over the years, many would think all that is left are scenes of chaos brought by overpopulation and the feeble service delivery, but a Heritage Expeditions Africa (HExA) could be adequate to dismantle that thought.

A subsidiary of hospitality giant Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG), the domestic tour operations wing, that opened its doors recently, could bring the sunshine factor back to the city with their packages covering adventure, wildlife, historical and cultural experiences.

“The Sunshine City Tour is a popular offering by HExA that takes guests on a 2-4 hour tour of the city of Harare. The tour is steeped in the history of the city and every stop is a history lesson that leaves guests with a better understanding and knowledge of the city,” reads a statement.

The route of the tour includes Mbare Musika, Kopje Skyline view, National Heroes Acre, Balancing Rocks in Epworth and Mukuvisi Woodlands, among other exciting views one would never have imagined exist in the city.

“We procured a consignment of six 20-seater buses in May 2019, which will be used for tours and transfers around the country,” said Tendai Madziwanyika the RTG chief executive, who also disclosed that their services were set to expand into the region.

Meanwhile, for adrenalin junkies, HExA has established Heritage Adventure Park at their Rainbow Towers Hotel with activities including a double adult zipline, children’s zipline, a high beam and amp; crock walk, paint ball shooting, and a 10-metre drop abseiling and climbing wall.

“It is the first zipline attached to a hotel building in Zimbabwe. This activity is normally found in resort destinations, but we saw an opportunity to optimise the vast space at the Rainbow Towers Hotel. There was a gap in the market for a facility that offers team building activities,” he said.

“The Heritage Adventure Park is an ideal destination for families seeking some high adrenaline leisure experience in an accessible location in the heart of the city.”

While the concept of fun had mostly been relegated to music shows, braai/gango outings and clubbing, HExA services which incorporate people from different walks of life could be a fresh breath into the leisure sphere.
