Sungura musician Brian Samaita (pictured above) says the year 2019 was full of blessings despite the socio-economic challenges prevailing in the country.

The businessman-cum-musician told Standard Style on Friday that he managed to release an album and religiously travelled to South Africa for sermons twice a month at the Enlightened Christian Gathering church led by founder South Africa-based Malawian prophet, Shepherd Bushiri.

“It was a tough a year on the economic front, but through the grace of God, I managed to release an album Ndafunga Dembo and I consistently attended church services in Pretoria,” Samaita said.

Coming out of a lengthy sabbatical, Samaita released the album, Ndafunga Dembo in June, a tribute to the late Barura Music icon Leonard Dembo.

“It was tough mobilising resources, but through God’s will I approached Bothwell Nyamhondera and we worked on the production of the song,” he said.

The album, which is being marketed and distributed by Diamond Studios has songs such as Handityi Kufa, Herudhe, Hombarume,Kuromba and Samaita.

“I have performed in Mozambique and Malawi, while here at home I am just doing ‘low-profile’ gigs like playing at private functions. I am looking forward to countrywide tours to promote my album,” he said.

He said spiritually he has been uplifted, thanks to Prophet Bushiri “who anointed me”.

However, on a sad note Samaita said he was devasted by the loss of US$90 000 to a Harare lawyer in a botched property deal.
