ZIMBABWE soccer coaches have been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a feel of German football coaching methods following an invitation from the German Football Federation for a 10-day training programme that will run from January 27 to February 7 in Berlin.

The deal has been facilitated by United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean football scout and coach Phillip Zulu.

According to a letter from Jan Scharhowsky, the head of qualification and sport at the Berlin Football Federation, the course would be conducted by selected instructors from the Berlin Football Federation and the qualification is equivalent to the German B or C badge depending on the assessment during the course.

The letter from Scharhowsky to Zimbabwe soccer coaches reads in part:

“We are offering international further education from January 27 to February 7. The coaches will receive certificates from the Berlin Football Association upon successful participation.”

The coaches selected to participate in the Berlin training will be expected to pay their own costs.

The 10-day programme comes at a time when Zimbabwean football coaches have been starved of high-level training following the non-holding of the CAF A badge training over the past three or four years.

Zulu revealed that he would be getting in touch with the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) with regard to the coaching course, but added that the last time there was such an opportunity, there was no response from the national football controlling body.

Such programmes at Zifa fall under the technical director, a post that is held by Wilson Mutekede, former CAPS United team manager.

“We have a number of players in Zimbabwe and outside who are hanging their boots and this is an opportunity for them to quickly adapt to top-flight coaching,” said Zulu.

“This initiative is solely directed towards individuals who see the need to develop their knowledge, coaching skills and modern top-flight coaching curricula.”
