MUTARE-BASED gospel artiste Jairos Mutambikwa (pictured above), who was an alcoholic, has revealed how God healed and transformed him to be an evangelist, who now wins souls to Christ through music.

Mutambikwa has never looked back since recording his debut album titled Humambo in 2016 up to his latest single, UMC History, dedicated to the United Methodist Church.

“The gospel has impacted me a lot. I was a drunkard before and now, 20 years later after God called me into His ministry, the fact that I no longer smoke or drink beer is testimony on its own.

“My family supports me and even comes to watch me during my shows.

“I got inspiration from the Word of God since I am a preacher, in most of my songs particularly the single Awesome God, I bring hope to the weak,” he said.

A big fan of South African gospel legend Sipho Makhabane, Mutambikwa has done two albums and a single titled Awesome God.

But it is the single UMC History that has brought fame to the Methodist church singer.

“I did UMC history which is a narration of how the church began in 1890 to the present moment,” he said.

The Victory Melodies frontman praised his team for being loyal to him since the group’s formation in 2004 at UMC’s Sakubva assembly in Mutare.

The group comprises of guitarists Benjamin Matarise, Tawanda Round and Joseph Makureya, while Joseph Sajero and Dutchie Namate are on drums and Tinashe Kufakunesu is the choreographer.

Three years later Mutambikwa had a stint as a drummer for Ndire Ndire Hilltop Vabvuwi and the group recorded two albums with him.

Besides music, he is a panelbeater and spraypainter.
