For years Zimbabwe’s arts industry has been yearning for promoters who go beyond established musicians and uplift upcoming talents.
Musicians in most cases would try to sail through a congested industry, to make names in the entertainment industry.
In that light several musicians have hailed a Victoria Falls-based arts company, Express Entertainment, for bringing artistes from different parts of the country together on their riddim Express.
Silent Killer said though dancehall riddims had always been existing it was only done by producers from Harare, and for the company to come all the way from Victoria Falls to unite artistes, it was a welcome gesture.
“We need that as an industry because we are calling for talent development not to divide artistes to claim that you can make or break them. We are calling all promoters to do justice to the industry so that we can have more people coming on board,” he said.
Hwindi President said having a number of promoters doing such initiatives helps them to expand their fan base.
“I know Express is well-known in Victoria Falls and it is good that when they come with such initiatives, we get involved as musicians because it broadens our fan base. We encourage musicians to come and join the initiative,” he said.

The riddim was produced by Marlon T, who said it was important to have such initiatives from promoters.
“We have been having producers coming up with idea of riddims, but now we see promoters are coming on board. This is just good because it gives the genre mileage and also a wider fan base. On the side of the artistes, they get to reach to different fans,” he said.
Shambare, widely known as Elder Shambare, said he was happy with the reception and urged promoters and organisations to put their input on the genre that has hit Zimbabwe by storm.
“The idea is to promote Zimdancehall in Zimbabwe and as Express Entertainment we are going to have a number of projects to support that initiative. Since we are based in Victoria Falls, we will support musicians from all the regions so that they can push the idea forward,” he said.
Turning to the riddim, he said it was important for upcoming musicians to take such opportunities to merge with established musicians.
“If you can see on this riddim, we have all musicians upcoming and established so that they can get to know each other, explore business opportunities in their genre as well as do collaborations,” he said.
Musicians that include Hwindi President, Jah Master, Kabhidha and Nicky Vybes, among others, are on the riddim.
