Various players and groups have joined government in the fight against coronavirus (Covid-19) and these include the Zimbabwe Young Influencers (ZYI), which is pushing the Case Zero initiative aimed at reducing the number of Covid-19 cases to zero through public education and various campaigns by influencers who are part of organisation.

ZYI chairperson Fagio Marowa said they are doing all they can to partner central government and other stakeholders in the fight against Covid-19.

“Zimbabwe Young Influencers is a coming-together of respected players in various sectors including business, media, arts, sports, health, politics and development work, to name a few,” Marowa said.

“Our hope is to use our influence to educate members of the public on prevention, management of the virus as well as adherence to the national lockdown.”

The organisation has to date engaged various players from local authorities and the health sector with a view to unpack some myths and misconceptions around the pandemic while proferring possible solutions.

They have also managed to record an educational skit on Covid-19 featuring actor and TV personality Zolile “Tsotsi” Makeleni of Wenera fame, who is part of their organisation.

Of the skit, Makeleni described edutainment as one effective way of pushing key messages around coronavirus and he was happy to be taking part.

“I am part and parcel of Zimbabwe Young Influencers and I am happy to be playing my part in the fight against coronavirus,” Makeleni said.

“We are playing our part under the #CaseZero campaign and just last week we recorded a skit educating members of the public around the pandemic with focus on handwashing, social distancing as well as the symptoms of coronavirus.”

Among such artistes who have taken a stand against coronavirus is Mwana Wachari, who has recorded a song against fear as the nation grapples with Covid-19.
