Maverick businessman-cum-socialite Mike Chimombe, aka Boss Mike, has joined the fight against the spread of the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) that has lately seen a spike in the number of infected people in the country.

Chimombe is on a whirlwind tour of Mashonaland West province where he is donating hand sanitisers, personal protective equipment and foodstuffs to ameliorate the plight of affected communities in the wake of the extended nationwide lockdown.

Speaking at Mhangura Christian Hospital on Thursday during a handover ceremony, Chimombe, who is also the Zanu PF national youth league indigenisation and empowerment secretary, said he had taken heed of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for various stakeholders to pool resources together in tackling the pandemic.

“As youths, we took note of the President’s call to mobilise resources in the fight against this coronavirus. Therefore, we came to this institution to donate these goods to promote good hygiene as well as ensure food security,” Chimombe said.

“This 120-bed district referral centre, I am told, caters for patients from about 17 clinics in Mhangura, which is a farming community that guarantees the nation’s nutritional well-being,” said Chimombe.

The hospital’s medical superintendent, Munyaradzi Musiiwa, hailed Chimombe for the timely donation, reiterating the commitment by the hospital’s frontline staff despite shortages of critical equipment and sundries as Covid-19 ravages.

Chimombe said donations would be made to various health institutions and quarantine centres across Mashonaland West’s seven districts; Kadoma, Sanyati, Chegutu, Mhondoro-Ngezi, Hurungwe and Kariba.

Meanwhile, Chimombe, who was accompanied by Enzo Ishal of Kanjiva fame, caused a stir during a brief stop-over in Chinhoyi on their way to Mhangura when a mob defied the lockdown regulations to observe physical distancing, taking the rare opportunity to jostle to shoot selfies with the award-winning celebrity. Chimombe is Enzo Ishal’s erstwhile benefactor.
