Stanbic Bank distributed US$200 000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to six major health institutions throughout the country over the past week.
The leading financial services institution distributed five ventilators; 32 500 suits, masks, face shields and goggles; 2 400 PCR testing kits, 3 000 sanitisers for frontline workers to St Anne’s and Wilkins hospitals in Harare, Gweru Provincial Hospital, Thorngrove Hospital in Bulawayo, Masvingo General Hospital and Mutare Infectious Diseases Hospital.
Stanbic Bank is also in the process of drilling boreholes in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo and Glen Norah C in Harare.
Stanbic Bank non-executive director Nellie Tiyago said the institution was committed to play a pivotal role in the fight against Covid-19 and recognised the importance of healthcare workers in this battle.
“There are many frontline workers and we appreciate their efforts,” Tiyago said.
“Stanbic Bank is here to support the medical frontliners, who can in no way escape or avoid this war as they are the backbone of the survival of our people even when we are not in times of crisis”
In Gweru, Midlands Provincial Affairs minister Larry Mavhima received the goods on behalf of Gweru General Hospital while the mayors of Bulawayo and Mutare Solomon Mguni and Blessing Tandi respectively received the equipment for the health institutions in their jurisdictions.
