Budding Bulawayo Afro-pop gospel diva Previllage Taungwa (pictured below), leader of the Rejoicing Singers, has vowed to engage fellow musicians especially female artistes to complement all efforts aimed at combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

Taungwa believes female artistes have a role to ensure that correct information is distributed to people.

“We have what it takes to ensure the dissemination of correct information which moulds people into the expected behaviour in times like this when the whole world is under the scourge of the Covid-19 pandemic,” she told Standard Style.

Like many artistes, Taungwa is counting her losses but, on the other hand, the obtaining situation has brought other dimensions especially with regard to her role of using the creative power for the common good.

“l was planning to launch my album titled Shoko Ramwari the first week of April but due to the national lockdown I indefinitely suspended all this,” she said.

“The Covid-19 outbreak has disturbed me a lot as l had plans to work on my video as well. The consequences are so dire because l can no longer work to get more money to complete my music projects.”

Taungwa believes that adhering to instructions from responsible authorities is key to mitigate this pandemic and as artistes she urges her colleagues to influence their fans in a positive and responsible way.

“l believe there is life after this virus is over and as artistes we should not just sit down, it’s time to come up with initiatives to help our communities and country at large,” she said.

“Our fans always look up to us, so let’s take advantage of that to ensure that correct information aimed at containing this pandemic is spread for after all prevention is better than cure. Let’s follow instructions from the ministry of Health and the government to save lives.

“The flipside of this lockdown which has been extended indefinitely is to come up with practical ideas of fighting this Covid-19.

“I encourage all artistes not to lose hope for we are also frontline soldiers.”
