NEWLY formed opposition political party, Ideas Party of Democracy (IPD) has unveiled a 53-member interim national executive which as it prepares to hold its inaugural elective congress next month.

The party is headed by South African-based businessman Herbert Chamuka, who hails from President Emmerson Mnanagwa’s Mapanzure area of Zvishavane.

Chamuka is deputised by three vice presidents, Dumisani Mathe, who is based in Bulawayo, Stella Rwezuva who is based in Kwekwe and Thulani Ncube.

Luckson Zvenyika is the party’s interim national chauirman while Andrew Muzvagwi is the secretary general.

In an interview from his South Africa base, Chamuka said he was confident the party will be a force to recon with at the 2023 general election.

“We are oiling the machine to be ready for the 2023 elections, they will feel us,” Chamuka said.

“There is no democracy now in the country. Zanu PF has never introduced democracy in the country since 1980 and it is our goal to bring democracy into the country,” he said.

“As IPD we encouraged people to work together in peace for the development of the country. We are confident that if we go to the election with this team, we will resoundingly defeat Zanu PF. Our membership is widely distributed across the country now and we have embarked on a massive recruitment exercised. So far, the signs are promising,” he added.
