The prophet Elisha was surrounded by soldiers sent to capture him, but he was not afraid or moved by this great company. His servant was afraid and cried out in fear because he was not seeing how they would make it alive from the situation. The prophet was more composed and seemed too calm for the situation they were  facing.

The prophet prayed for his servant, allowing him to understand why he was so composed and not afraid. The servant could have heard stories of how the prophet called out fire from heaven and burned his enemies, but he did not expect the prophet to pray the nature of prayer he prayed for him. He asked for God to open his eyes. Imagine you are faced with a life-and-death situation and the best prayer from a man with an ability to call fire from heaven was for the servant’s eyes to be opened.

Was the servant blind or there was something else the prophet was seeing that he was not seeing? When the servant’s eyes were opened, he was surprised to see heavenly chariots surrounding them and the company of men who had come to capture the prophet.

The servant was focused on the enemy army because he was blinded from the host of angels that surrounded the prophet. These angels would travel with them always and yet he did not know it. I once heard of a man who being in prayer was suddenly surrounded by angels. He had woken up to pray and because there was no power, he was praying in a dark room when the angels appeared in the room and he  looked and knew they were of God. But  a distant object appeared and he lost focus of the angels. That distant object was the devil. The more he focused on the devil, the bigger he became. The devil grew bigger and bigger until his size forced the angels to  vanish. The angels vanished instantly and he could no longer see them.

Fear crept into him and one of the angels reappeared and said to  him, “Do not observe lying vanities.” The devil immediately vanished into thin air. The servant of the prophet was focused on the company of man that had been sent to capture him that he lost focus on the angels that always moved with the prophet.

You empower what you focus on and at times we have focused too much on the problems around us that we have removed power from God’s hand and placed it into the enemy’s hand.

If Jonah had focused on his situation while he was in the belly of the fish, he would not have walked out. He had to stop looking at his situation and begin to worship. As he worshipped, he was delivered. The devil in that vision became bigger because he focused on him and removed his eyes from God’s angels. If you look at that sickness, it will become bigger than God’s ability to heal you.

At times we remain trapped in different situations because we have focused on them rather than on what God would be saying. So, like Elisha, I say Lord open their eyes that they may see that You are with them and no situation is bigger than God. God bless you.
