A Chikomba family whose members suffer from physical disabilities recently received a major boost after a non-governmental organisation donated wheelchairs and food hampers.

The Mudzuka family, from Mushipe village, also got a reprieve after the organisation, ROSA Care, renovated their house.

Violet Mudzuka (95) and her 68-year-old son Clayton are disabled and had difficulties in movements until ROSA Care brought wheelchairs much to the delight of neighbours, fellow villagers and community leaders.

Speaking during the handover, ROSA Care coordinator Forbes Chikobvu said he was touched by the plight of the family, hence the assistance.

“We realised that despite being disabled, the family house was not in good shape, hence we donated some materials and the building was renovated. We also brought wheelchairs for the family members to ease their mobility. The organisation has also brought some foodstuffs to cheer them up during this festive season,” he said.

Chikobvu said it was high time communities identify people who are in need and do intiatives to make their life comfortable A number of people living with disabilities around the Mushipe area benefited from the wheelchairs.

Mudzuka and her family were overwhelmed by the generosity.

“I feel I am a human being at last. It’s good to know that there are some people out there who have a heart towards the needy like me and my family,” Mudzuka said.

“We are happy that we have been remembered. We now own a proper shelter, we got wheelchairs and groceries, that is very important.

“My son was born disabled and he is now 68, so this is the first time to be moving in a wheelchair.”
