South Africa-based musician Letwin Chawira has started the year on a high note winning her debut award Discovery Song of the Year with the track Heal Our Land on Friday at the Maranatha Global Uprising Africa hosted virtually in Kenya.

Chawira said she is humbled given her music is receiving airplay locally, in South Africa and East Africa.

“I am very excited that I have been recognised outside my mother country,” she said.

“It’s quite an honour and this has motivated me to work harder than before. I am also happy because the award-winning song is being played on radio stations in East Africa and South Africa’s One Gospel TV and Soweto TV. It was Number 8 on Christ TV’s Top 25 end of year best videos,” she said.

Winners were announced via Instagram.

The gospel diva told Standard Style that the song she released last year is a prayer to God for the world to be healed from several threatening issues that include the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I recorded Heal Our Land in October 2019 and launched it in April 2020 on Star FM. It’s from the album titled Prayers and Praises. The song is actually prophetic because it now has relevance in the current period where nations need healing from the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.

“I want to thank all those who voted for the song. Your support means a lot and I urge you to keep on supporting gospel music.”
