SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwe heavyweight boxer Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo’s is desperate to secure a new passport in time for his non-title bout against Romanian Bogdan Dinu scheduled for Tanzania next month.

Bomber’s travel documents expire in a week’s time.

If he gets a passport on time, it will be the ring-rusty Moyo’s first fight during the Covid-19 pandemic spell after his last on May 25 2019 when he lost by a unanimous points decision to Swiss Arnold Gjergjaj in Switzerland.

Moyo, currently not ranked and his status is inactive according to boxrec.com, confirmed during an interview with The Sports Hub that he is, billed to fight the Romanian who is ranked number 90.

The fight is set for March 26 at a venue to be announced.

“I have a fight on March 26 in Tanzania. I need an emergency passport as mine is expiring in 10 days. If only I could do something at the embassy and fly to Harare to pick it up,” Moyo said.

The pugilist said Tanzania had been chosen for the non-title fight as there is no Covid-19 lockdown in the East African country.

“Tanzania has never had a lockdown and they have few Covid-19 cases. They have never stopped living, so is their sports,” he said.

Some time back Moyo told this publication and he was itching for a fight to bounce back to the world rankings but finances were a major challenge.

He is lining up fights in Tanzania under Global Boxing Stars with Jeremy Bean. Moyo said he had started training to get back into shape and would start sparring later in the month as he prepares for the Tanzania fight.

Before his last fight in May 2019, the former World Boxing Federation African champion was ranked number 100 in the world, but has been without opponents for some time.
