Larger-than-life gospel rapper Mudiwa Hood says he is using his influence to cultivate a culture of benevolence and selfless sacrifice for one another in society.

The lyricist, known for his opulent lifestyle and philanthropic deeds, recently initiated the #SkipAMeal campaign, an initiative where he is encouraging people to “skip a meal every day for the next 90 days” to feed the hungry.

In an interview with Standard Style on Thursday, the Tati Tivatipe singer said his humble background has played a great role in influencing his giving mentality.

“I have been doing a lot of charity work by myself already so I felt I should include other people. I am a product of help because I grew up poor in Chitungwiza and I have an idea of how it is to lack but now I know how it feels to have and I feel the need to help others,” he said.

Through the SkipAMeal project, the rapper expects to raise $1million worth of food or more in the next three months and he has partnered FundMass for online contributions.

“The whole idea of this project is just to make a sacrifice so we can help those who cannot get a decent meal because sometimes that is all it takes to change someone’s life.”

Hood has attracted the nation’s attention for his showy character in what has sparked criticism about Christian dictates around publicising the act of giving.

“The Bible says those who desire to be great should not be discouraged, I am not apologetic of God’s blessings and there is nothing wrong with living a very good life while also helping others,” he said.

“I am a public leader and I would like to believe that I am a youth with a difference so I have a responsibility to impact society positively, Jesus Christ never hid the miracles He did and if they had cameras we would have seen all of it.

“I am not worried about what people will think about me, but worry more about the person I am helping and the impact it will have on their life.”
