THE Centre for Innovation and Technology (CITE) recently launched the Voices for Change Program aimed at promoting artistes’ welfare during  this COVID-19 pandemic.

CITE’s acting social media editor Tanaka Mrewa told NewsDay Life & Style that they were looking for artistes to record songs on social issues affecting communities.

She said the best demo for the month will win 165 Euros, a recording contract and music distribution on online stores.

“Voices for Change is a project which targets young artists specifically between the ages of 18-35 years. The artistes are expected to each  produce a song which speaks to challenges affecting communities (human rights abuses, corruption, poor service delivery, gender based violence),” she said.

“The program which began in April will run for the next 10 months. At the end of each month , three songs will be selected and people will vote for the one they like the most. Voting process will be done online.”

She added; “The project comes at an opportune time where artists have been greatly affected by the Covid-19 induced lockdown. The prize money and the recording contract will come in handy for them.”

“April winner is a song called Ibhaw’za by Kelvin Nyoni. The song speaks to the water shortages which were endured by people in Bulawayo.”
