ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH)’s Heart & Soul online radio and television station will today livestream the openning of this year’s commemorations of the Culture Week by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Chief Njelele’s homestead in Gokwe South, Midlands province.
AMH also publishes NewsDay, The Standard, Zimbabwe Independent , Weekly Digest and Southern Eye.
The Culture Week concept is derived from Unesco’s 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity which proclaimed May 21 the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
The week-long event, meant to celebrate, promote creativity and cultural diversity, roared to life on Saturday across the country’s provinces under the theme: Resilience in safeguarding creativity and cultural diversity, and will end tomorrow.
The cultural fiesta features various online events including dance, music, film, theatre, visual arts, literature, poetry and comedy on media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, YouTube, television and radio.
AMH editor-in-chief Wisdom Mdzungairi yesterday said: “Heart & Soul Broadcasting Services has a strong affinity for the arts and culture sector in Zimbabwe. Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions to gatherings, we know that the sector has taken a hard knock.
“We have partnered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe to help amplify the work they are doing, by reaching Zimbabwean audiences not just nationally but across the globe. We are live streaming the proceedings on our digital platforms (Facebook Heart and Soul Zim and Youtube Channel @HSTVLIVEZIM).”

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) director Nicholas Moyo, in a statement early this week, said the commemorations would be held in line with COVID-19 safety protocols. He added that only invited guests would be allowed entry to the venues.
“The proceedings (national culture commemorations) will be broadcast live on the NACZ and Nama Facebook pages and other social media platforms. A limited number of performances and exhibitions have been lined up, comprising artists from the Midlands and other provinces to showcase the country’s cultural diversity,” he said.
Moyo said the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was celebrated to deepen understanding of the value of cultural diversity.
“It also aims to support sustainable systems of governance for culture, achieve a balanced flow of cultural goods and services, increase the mobility of artists and cultural professionals, integrate culture in sustainable development frameworks and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms in advancing the goals of the 2005 Unesco Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions,” he said.
Invited guests will be entertained by live performances from local musicians such as Umkhathi Productions, Pasichigare Performing Arts, Sasha, Amadhuve and Amadhuve Legacy, Mbada Ensemble, Xiddo, Ngqindi, Lerato Ndlovu, Chief Njelele Modelling, Mapfumo Primary School and Five Brigade, Hovani Secondary School.
