DESPITE falling eight points behind table-toppers Ngezi Platinum Stars and five adrift of second-placed FC Platinum, troubled Triangle remain hopeful that they can clinch one of the two Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinal spots from their pool.

Triangle have so far collected one point from their 1-1 draw against topflight returnees WhaWha, a result that left coach Taurai Mangwiro close to tears. Their next match is against Ngezi Platinum Stars who walloped them 3-1 in the reverse fixture.

Mangwiro believes his team can bounce back in the last three matches of Group 4 to finish in the top two.

“I wouldn’t say we have been poor, but we have failed to grind positive results, that is why I am more concerned about the results than the performance,” he said. “All I can say is the games were winnable, what we didn’t have was the character to see us home.  Of course, a lot of factors come into play and key among them is failure to defend our leads and our conversion has not been high. What I need to work on and also as technical team, we need to focus on our shortcomings and not despair,” he added.

Despite taking the lead in all its previous games, Triangle went on to lose to FC Platinum and Ngezi.

Mangwiro has so far been pleased with the commitment from his players and has urged fans not to lose hope.

“I don’t doubt the commitment that the boys have shown considering where we are coming from. They have given decent accounts of themselves, it’s just that the two pacesetters have done better than us at this juncture,”Mangwiro said.

Group 2, 3 and 4 will take a break this weekend with only Group 1 in action as it contains more teams.
